Tackling Excessive Property Taxes and Utility Rates

For 40 years, HIGH PROPERTY TAXES have plagued Wyandotte County. This is a direct result of decades of patronage jobs and no-bid contracts.

It’s NOT fair to the seniors, whites, blacks, latinos, asians, and all of us that have suffered through these past 30 years. I have many ideas on how to lower the operating costs of our local government. I’d like a chance to implement these ideas and pass the savings on to YOU the form of lower property tax bill.

98% of all of us will benefit by reducing spending and lowering taxes.

It’s YOUR MONEY! YOU WORKED HARD for it. YOU DESERVE to keep more of it.

Fighting Rising Crime in Wyandotte County

Crime is on the rise across our country. When your government shuts down the economy, people resort to theft and violence.

We must better connect our police force with our neighborhoods and citizens so that we all learn to trust one another for the common good. I have been working with neighborhood groups since the early 1990s. Central Avenue Betterment, Leavenworth Road Assoc, Concerned Citizens of Armourdale/ARA; WCAC, Argentine Betterment, Turner Community Connection, and many more.  Neighborhood groups and citizens are the eyes and ears for our law enforcement.  I will work to re-establish, renew and improve connections between citizens, neighbors, and law enforcement. I was involved early on with the community policing movement and want to expand the concept to all members of the force.  I will work with our new Sheriff and new Police Chief to find ways to even better improve cooperation among these departments and to maximize the number of officers who patrol our streets.

Utilizing My Experience to Get Things Done

Yes, I was involved in politics earlier in life.  During 16 years In the Kansas Senate (1996-2012), I learned a lot about public policy and government operations, but more importantly I learned how and when to question bureaucrats and agency staffers, and shut down programs that don’t work.  I worked tirelessly for 10 years in the Senate to assemble the bipartisan coalition of Democrats and Republicans that ultimately passed and made into law, casino gaming and allowing the construction of the Hollywood casino at The Speedway.

I consistently voted in favor of citizen choice on a wide range of issues. Guns, gambling, smoking, alcohol, seatbelts, motorcycle helmets etc. Its better when citizens make their own choices about their lives, not politicians and bureaucrats. I believe that big government leads to impoverished citizens; I prefer small government and empowered citizens.

I’ve also been a businessman for 20 years and I’ve learned how to be a tough negotiator with contractors, vendors, and lenders. I successfully converted a closed school building, Historic Lowell School, into affordable housing for seniors. I’m careful with my money and I’ll be careful with yours.
