Gun Rights

I support gun owner’s 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. The vast majority of Kansas gun owners are responsible and take extreme precaution before discharging their weapon. I believe that we should allow more individual freedoms for responsible people.

Coming from an urban Senate district, I know that criminals conceal their weapons every day. I believe that after a background check, a gun safety course, and taking the time to obtain a permit, that a Kansas gun owner who chooses to conceal their weapon is a gun owner that our society can trust to use that firearm responsibly.

I grew up hunting with a Springfield .22 single shot, and later a Browning 12 gauge shotgun. I went through a Young Hunters Safety Clinic where I was taught how to responsibly use that firearm and enjoyed the time I spent with family hunting a variety of game.

My father served in World War II and brought home a Colt .45 automatic which I keep in my home for the protection of my family. Thankfully, I have never had to use my gun to defend my home or family but it shall remain in my home just in case.

I am certain that we can trust our friends and neighbors to be responsible gun owners and understand that to restrict this most basic freedom would undermine one of the tenets our founding fathers held most dear.
